# Sending an AI model to the Hawza

IlmFlow builds tools for the students and teachers of the hawza, and with their help, a model that learns the hawza’s *method*: why a ruling is a ruling, with its references, and every machine output labelled as one.

## The goal

The long-term goal is a model trained in the hawza’s method, by the hawza’s own scholars and students: why a ruling is a ruling, with its references, and every machine output labelled as one.

It is sent to the hawza the way a student is: to learn how the scholars reason, from the people who do it.

## How it learns

It begins in the classroom. In [Daftar](https://tpilmflow.com/en/tools/#daftar), teachers and students record their lessons and mubahatha if they choose, and write the questions and answers those lessons teach, with their sources. A second scholar reviews every one.

The reviewed records become training pairs, the examples a model learns from. They teach the method rather than a list of rulings: as Daftar’s own guide puts it, a fine-tune learns habits, not facts. [How the model learns](https://tpilmflow.com/en/model/).

> We do the technology. The hawza does the scholarship.

## A student needs more than classes

Each of those needs is a tool.

- **Daftar** (Classes and mubahatha): Where teachers and students keep what their lessons teach, as reviewed questions and answers.
- **Fihrist** (Books): A finding aid for a library of Arabic, Persian and English books: it finds the book and the page, and shows you the page.
- **Safina** (Lectures from the great scholars): An archive of the scholars’ lectures, lessons and sermons, kept word for word as their own sites publish them.
- **Diwan** (A place to work, write and research): The writing desk: every word kept exactly, with every revision and who made it.
- **Sanad** (The narrators of the hadith): The narrators who transmitted the hadith, and what each book of rijal says about them.

## How far each has come

Where each tool stands today, and the whole. These are our own estimates, corrected as the work moves.

| | Next |
|---|---|
| Daftar | Live, 60%. Next: Transcribing recorded lessons on our own machines, so review can return to the lesson’s own words. |
| Fihrist | Growing, 70%. Next: The hawza’s books as its publishing house sends them, and the Arabic books that exist only as scans. |
| Safina | Growing, 45%. Next: More of the great scholars’ lectures from their own sites, and translation on request, labelled as a machine’s. |
| Diwan | Live, 65%. Next: Sharing a single piece of work with a named reader. |
| Sanad | Planned, 5%. Next: Its requirements, written with the scholars who will use it; then the books of rijal. |
| The whole: the AI model | Building, 25%. Next: The first reviewed training pairs from the hawza’s lessons. |

## Open to collaboration

If you teach or study in the hawza, publish its books, or want its method carried with its references, we would like to hear from you. [Talk to us](https://tpilmflow.com/en/contact/)
